Tristan Bauer’s Falklands War drama “Iluminados por el fuego” has nabbed 11 nominations, including director, actor for Gaston Pauls and supporting actress for Virginia Innocenti in Argentina’s national film awards, the Condor de Plata.
“Iluminados” picked up the Coral award for picture in Havana and the special jury prize at San Sebastian last year.
Fabian Bielinsky’s thriller “El Aura” snagged 10 noms, with thesp Ricardo Darin up for actor and Bielinsky for original screenplay.
Jorge Gaggero’s drama “Cama adentro” followed with six noms, including actress for vet thesp Norma Aleandro. It’s also a contender for the debut feature trophy.
All three will compete for picture along with Damian Szifron’s “Tiempo de valientes,” Ines de Oliveira Cezar’s “Como pasan las horas” and Marcos Carnevale’s “Elsa & Fred.”
Foreign pic noms went to Alexander Payne’s “Sideways,” Tim Burton’s “Corpse Bride,” Oliver Hirschbiegel’s “Downfall,” Wong Kar Wai’s “2046” and Volker Schlondorff’s “The Ninth Day.”
Winners will be announced in May.
Considered the country’s most prestigious awards, the Condor de Plata awards have been presented by Argentina’s Film Writers Assn. since 1942.
