Whitaker wins actor of year nod

The Hollywood Film Festival will present Forest Whitaker with its actor of the year nod and Derek Luke and Lindsay Lohan with its breakthrough acting awards.

Kudos will be presented at the fest’s awards ceremony Oct. 23 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Festival has also announced movie of the year nominees: “Cars,” “The Da Vinci Code,” “The Devil Wears Prada,” “Little Miss Sunshine,” “Mission: Impossible III,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” “Superman Returns,” “United 93,” “World Trade Center” and “X-Men: The Last Stand.”

Nominees for the fest’s world awards are “12:08 East of Bucharest” (Romania); “Buenos Aires, 1977″ (Argentina); “Climates” (Turkey, France); “Grbavica” (Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Germany, Croatia); “The Lives of Others” (Germany); “Pan’s Labyrinth” (Mexico, Spain); “The Queen” (U.K., France, Italy); “Red Road” (U.K., Denmark); “Volver” (Spain); and “The Wind That Shakes the Barley” (Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Ireland, U.K.).

Whitaker currently stars in “The Last King of Scotland” and recently completed the suspense thriller “Vantage Point.”

Luke heads the cast in “Catch a Fire” and was last seen in “Glory Road.” Lohan’s in the upcoming “Bobby,” “Chapter 27″ and “Georgia Rule.”
