Greece’s Audiovisual buys distrib

Prooptiki releases movies for Sony, Buena Vista

Greek film distributor Prooptiki has been sold to Audiovisual Enterprises, Greece’s only publicly listed entertainment company.

Prooptiki, which also has operations in Romania, Bulgaria and the former Yugoslavia, releases movies theatrically for Sony and Buena Vista.

Audiovisual, which recently acquired six Greek multiplexes from Ster Century and owns the country’s only theme park, handles video distribution for Warner, Buena Vista, New Line, Miramax and Village Roadshow.

The acquisition consolidates Audiovisual’s position as the market leader in the Greek entertainment biz. Company floated on the Greek stock market in July.
