German-French body funds four films

The German-French Film Funding Commission handed out a total of E1.3 million ($1.6 million) to four films this week, including Fanny Ardant starrer “La chambre d’ami,” a France-set psychodrama helmed by Christian de Chalonge.

Julia Jentsch (“Sophie Scholl”) will play the lead in “Capri 1934,” an adaptation of a novel by Italian author Alberto Moravia. Helmer Benoit Jacquot will shoot the English-language pic in Italy.

“Dawn of the World” by director Abbas Fahdel is an Arabic-language marriage drama set in Iraq during the first Gulf war from Oliver Damian’s 27 Films shingle.

Another production set in central Asia is “Tengri — le bleu du ciel,” a love story directed by Marie Jaoul de Poncheville.
