With Beijing hosting the Olympics in 2008, producer Li Xiaowan is prepping the first of what is likely to be a spate of Chinese sport pics.

“The Blue Ocean and a Brave Heart” tells the true story of a canoeist who overcomes difficulties to snatch the gold medal in the Games.

Rising mainland thesp Huang Jue will play the canoeing star, according to the Chengdu Daily. Hong Kong thesp Tony Leung is in the frame to play the coach. Shooting will begin soon.

Li and scribe Chi Shao’ai are spending time with the Chinese canoeing team to experience life of canoe athletes for the film.
