'Hostel' earns most nominations with six

The inaugural “Fuse Fangoria Chainsaw Awards” are shaping up, with the kudocast unveiling such macabre categories as creepiest kid, highest body count, sickest f/x and killer video.

“Hostel” landed the most nominations with six, including killer movie and most thrilling killing. Three movies landed five noms: “Snakes on a Plane,” “Underworld: Evolution” and the remake of “The Hills Have Eyes.”

Awards will even feature a category dubbed “Dude You Don’t Wanna Mess With,” in which Samuel L. Jackson of “Snakes on a Plane” will vie against the ape from “King Kong.”

Kudos are scheduled for Oct. 15 at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles.

The Fuse network will run a 2½-hour tape of the event on Oct. 22, starting with a half-hour “black carpet” (at 9:30 p.m. ET) to critique the fashions of arriving celebrities. Event itself will include perfs by three groups still to be named, a nod to Fuse’s status as a predominantly music network.

Fuse, which started on the air in May 2003, added 6.7 million subscribers in the last year for a total of 44.8 million. MTV, the granddaddy of cable music networks in its 25th year, reaches 89.9 million.
