“Frozen Land,” a dark depiction of today’s Finland helmed by Aku Louhimies, beat out foreign-language Oscar hopeful “Mother of Mine” and local B.O. success “FC Venus” in the nominations for the Finnish film awards Monday.
Produced by Solar Films’ Markus Selin, the pic earned 10 nods for the Jussi Awards, including film, director and script.
Helmer Dome Karukoski’s drama “Beauty and the Bastard,” received eight noms, and will compete with “Frozen Land” for top film kudo. The third pic in the film race is Klaus Haro’s “Mother of Mine,” with six noms.
“For the Living and the Dead,” a drama by Kari Paljakka, also earned six nods, while “FC Venus” was nominated in two categories.
Jussi Award winners will be announced Feb. 5.
