‘Flicka’ rides to H’w’d fest

Film festival features 'Flushed'

The Hollywood Film Festival will present premieres of Fox’s “Flicka” and DreamWorks’ “Flushed Away” as highlights of its Oct. 18-23 run at the Arclight.

“Flicka” will screen on opening night, and “Flushed Away” will debut Oct. 22. The fest, now in its 10th year, also will premiere Starz’s “Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride: Hunter S. Thompson on Film” on Oct. 19.

The Hollywood Film Festival will premiere several pics focusing on problems in Africa — “In a Soldier’s Footsteps,” “Uganda Rising” and “The Empire of Africa.” Closing night screenings include Phillip Noyce’s “Catch a Fire,” a drama about terrorism in Apartheid-era South Africa starring Tim Robbins and Derek Luke.

The fest will include a program centered on Oliver Stone’s pics, with “Salvador” and “Born on the Fourth of July” screening Oct. 21, and “Platoon” and “World Trade Center” on Oct. 22, followed by a discussion with Stone.

The festival also is presenting the Hollywood Horror, Sci Fi and Fantasy Festival showcase of horror films on Oct. 20-22 in alliance with Film Threat.

Awards ceremony will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Oct. 23.

Besides Stone, honorees include Michael Barker and Tom Bernard, the Film Foundation, Robin Williams, Mike Medavoy, Forest Whitaker, Penelope Cruz, Ben Affleck, Sandra Bullock, the cast of “Bobby,” Eric Roth, Vilmos Zsigmond, Joel Cox, Gustavo Santaolalla, John Myhre, Penny Rose, Kris Evans, John Knoll, Disney/Pixar’s “Cars,” Francine Maisler, Derek Luke, Lindsay Lohan and Ryan Murphy.
