Filmkombinat launches distrib

World Brief

Dresden-based production company Filmkombinat (“Schultze Gets the Blues”) has launched a theatrical distrib, Weltecho.

It will release two titles this year — Benoit Delepine and Gustave de Kervern’s French-Belgian film “Aaltra,” which opens May 4, and Guy Maddin’s Canadian pic “The Saddest Music in the World.”

Weltecho aims to release four films per year.

Filmkombinat is producing the drama “Schroeders wunderbare Welt”; “Christmas Tree Upside Down,” an episodic film showcasing stories from Bulgaria; and “Beruehrungen — der Dirigent Otmar Suitner,” a documentary about the Austrian conductor who led the former East German state orchestra.

The pics will be released by another distrib, not Weltecho.
