STOCKHOLM — Trond Espen Seim (“Hawaii, Oslo”) has been cast as private eye Varg Veum, a Norwegian Philip Marlowe, in a series of six pics.
Movies are adapted from the bestselling novels of Gunnar Staalesen.
Bjorn Floberg (“Uro,” “I Am Dina”) and newcomer Kathrine Fagerland also have joined the cast.
The first feature, based on the novel “Bitre Blomster,” is being helmed by Ulrik Imtiaz Rolfsen, who made a name for himself in Norway with the action drama “Izzat.” Line Sandsmark and Jonas Allen of Danish shingle Miso Film produce.
Two of the films in the Varg Veum series will be helmed by hit director Erik Richter Strand (“Sons”), while the helmers of the three remaining pics have yet to be announced.
SF Norway, a subsidiary of Svensk Filmindustri, Miso Films and the Norwegian Film Fund are backing the projects, which have a combined budget of $12.8 million.
