Elektrofilm, Babelsburg link up

Exact details of deal still under wraps

Berlin-based post house Elektrofilm has quietly pacted with Studio Babelsberg to jointly develop, manage and expand operations on the lot.

Exact details of last week’s deal are still under wraps but post-production has not been an easy ride for Babelsberg’s own facility, TMT.

The new venture, said Elektrofilm chief operating officer Helen Chou, will create “a core team of the best people so we can take care of projects end to end.”

Studio Babelsberg topper Carl Woebcken added, “The deal means we can offer a onestop shop, hosting not only the film but also all the post-production facilities.”

Babelsberg’s core customers are still mostly German productions but, says Robert Walston, who heads Elekrofilm’s U.S. investment group of owners, “post-production is becoming a global service and moving content is becoming easier. We can do the work here in Germany or at our new L.A. facility.”
