Depth of Field and Scott Stuber and Mary Parent’s shingle have teamed up to buy a romantic comedy pitch by Stu Zicherman and Raven Metzner in a sizable preemptive bid at Universal Pictures.
Logline is being kept close, but Zicherman said, “What we’ve been obsessed with lately is male obsession with women, when a woman breaks your heart the things that you do that are desperate, humiliating and funny.”
Metzner and Zicherman penned last year’s Jennifer Garner starrer “Elektra.” Among their projects in development are crime thriller adaptation “A Cool Breeze in the Underground” for New Line and sci-fi pic “Deathlok” at Paramount.
Duo has also been doing some TV work with J.J. Abrams recently. The two are exec producers and creators of “Six Degrees,” a pilot that is getting ready to lense for ABC as well as consulting on Alphabet midseason replacement “What About Brian.”
Depth of Field’s latest pic is “American Dreamz,” helmed and written by Paul Weitz and starring Dennis Quaid and Hugh Grant. Pic is skedded for release by U on April 21.
Parent and Stuber’s unnamed company is in post on “You, Me and Dupree,” which U will unspool in July, and with Jamie Foxx starrer “The Kingdom,” which Michael Mann is readying.
Producing credits for the Zicherman-Metzner pitch are still being worked out, but in addition to Depth of Field partners Chris Weitz, Paul Weitz and Andrew Miano, veep Kerry Kohansky will also serve in some producing capacity.
