Cowan splits from Winkler

Former prexy ankles shingle to start indie house

Rob Cowan, who’s been president for 15 years at Winkler Films, has parted ways with topper Irwin Winkler to form his own independent production entity.

Cowan and Winkler will continue working together on upcoming MGM release “Home of the Brave,” starring Samuel L. Jackson, which opens Dec. 15. Cowan co-produced with Winkler.

He will also continue his involvement with Winkler on the miniseries “Chariots of the Gods.”

“My goal is to continue to continue to produce quality films, partially taking advantage of emerging independent financers while utilizing proven as well as brand new distribution systems,” Cowan said.

The duo first collaborated on “Betrayed” in 1987. They also teamed on “The Net,” “The Juror,” “Life as a House” and “De-Lovely.”
