Scorsese film brings in $497,547 opening weekend

HONG KONG — Martin Scorsese’s “The Departed,” Hollywood’s take on Hong Kong triad trilogy “Infernal Affairs,” lost out to Jackie Chan’s “Rob-B-Hood” in Hong Kong.
Chan pic’s second-weekend box office taking was $625,769. Cumulative box office as of Sunday for 10 days was almost $2.2 million in Hong Kong and more than $6.3 million in China.
“Rob-B-Hood” has dominated the box office since it opened Sept. 29.
The Scorsese gangster pic, starring Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, brought in $497,547 on 38 screens over three days on its opening weekend.
Media Asia, which produced “Infernal Affairs,” didn’t have figures for “Departed” in Taiwan due to a long public holiday. China preem hasn’t yet been arranged for the pic.
