Canuck funder exits Paris

Telefilm's to shutter Gaul offices

Canuck film funding agency Telefilm Canada will close its Paris office March 31 in an effort to reduce costs.

“Administrative savings from the closure will be redirected into our industry development activities,” said Wayne Clarkson, Telefilm’s exec director.

“Our logistical, promotional and networking support to clients working on the international scene will continue through existing and new initiatives to increase access to potential financing and exploitation, such as the recent Canada-U.K. Television Co-Production Immersion and the Perspective Canada market screenings in Berlin, as well as the upcoming ones in Cannes.”

Reasons behind the closure included limited use of the office and its resources; the existence of similar offices in Paris at the Canadian Embassy and through the Dept. of Canadian Heritage’s Trade Routes program; and the cost of maintaining the office.
