Brussels feasts on ‘Apples’

Danish black comedy grabs three gongs

LONDON — Black comedy “Adam’s Apples,” helmed by Anders Thomas Jensen, scored a triple triumph Saturday, swooping on the Golden Raven for best film, the European Feature Film Prize and the audience award at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Fest.

Denmark’s Oscar entry, “Apples” was a B.O. hit at home and has been sold to 15 countries. Pic also screened at Toronto and Sundance.

Silver Raven went to “Storm,” helmed by Swedish pair Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein.

Special mentions went to Alma Casal and Juan Serano, the makeup artists of “Fragile,” and “Homecoming Masters of Horror 6,” directed by Joe Dante.

Jury, headed by Michael Ironside, was Philippe Nahon, Matthew Robbins and Rob Schmidt.

Orbit Award went to “The Echo” helmed by Yam Laranas of the Philippines. Special mention went to “The Beautiful Washing Machine,” helmed by Malaysia’s James Lee.

Short competition was won by “Doll 639,” helmed by Hungary’s Andras Desi. Special jury prize went to “Los Ojos de Alicia,” helmed by Spain’s Ugo Sanz.
