Barrandov lays studio foundation

World Brief

Barrandov Studios laid the foundation stone for its $4.2 million, 43,000-square-foot soundstage Thursday in an effort to expand Prague’s capacity for more high-end productions.

The space, which can be separated into three smaller stages, will be twice the size of Barrandov’s largest stage.

Some, like Tomas Krejci, founder of production services company Milk & Honey, are concerned that Prague won’t be able to attract more productions like “Casino Royale,” which is wrapping its Czech shoot at Barrandov, without more sizeable, modern studios.

Move has silenced some of the criticism of Barrandov owner Moravia Steel, which has been accused of not promoting or developing the country’s biggest studio complex.
