‘Asterix,’ ‘Bosnia’ rights go to SPI

Distrib also acquires Cage starrer 'Next'

SPI Intl., headquartered in Warsaw, has announced the results of its Cannes spending spree. The indie distributor, which operates in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, bought into Pathe’s “Asterix at the Olympic Games” and Richard Gere starrer “Spring Break in Bosnia” for their Central European territories.

Both pics are currently in pre-production.

SPI also acquired the Lee Tamahori-helmed “Next,” starring Nicolas Cage and Julianne Moore, for Poland and Hungary.

In addition, SPI inked a deal with Summit on “The Tourist,” “P.S. I Love You” and “The Hottie and the Nottie” for Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It also bought Pathe U.K.’s “Dirty Sanchez” for Hungary and Studio Canal Plus’ “I Do” for Poland.

SPI also acquired “Rob-B-Hood” and “A Chinese Tall Story” from Hong Kong outfit Emperor Motion Pictures for all of SPI’s Central European territories.
