Former topper of Warner Bros.’ Spanish production arm, Ana Amigo, has reactivated shingle Amigo Producciones.
First project, “El Juego del ahorcado,” will be directed by Spanish comedy helmer Manuel Gomez Pereira, toplines Luis San Narciso (“The Sea Inside,” “Volver”), and is co-produced by Amigo and Gomez Pereira’s banner, Lenon.
“Juego” will mark a departure for Gomez Pereira, being his first drama. Helmer broke through in ’90s Spain making popular, sexed-up screwball comedies touching social concerns. Starring Javier Bardem, sex telephony romancer “Mouth To Mouth” was picked up by Miramax for the U.S.
“Juego” will shoot in Gerona and London later this year. Amigo aims to structure it as a three-way Euro co-prod.
Also in development, and looking to shoot in 2007, is “16 toneladas” from Eduard Cortes (“La Vida de nadie.”).
A vet producer, having worked at Sogepaq and Sogecine, Amigo launched WB’s Spanish op in January 2003 and ankled last May. Under Amigo, Warner Bros. Spain produced Gomez Pereira’s gay wedding romp “Reinas” and co-produced Cuban music hit “Habana Blues,” among other pics.
