L.A. band wins studio's contest; Swain is runner-up
New Line now has “Snakes on a Brain.”
Studio announced Thursday that Los Angeles-based band Captain Ahab had been tapped as the official winner of the “Snakes on a Plane” soundtrack contest. Ahab’s song “Snakes on a Brain” was selected over nearly 500 entries for placement in the film and soundtrack.
New Line also selected Louden Swain’s “Here Come The Snakes” as runner-up and will include the ditty on the soundtrack. Contest was hosted by the TagWorld networking site, which conducted voting to narrow the competition to 25 finalists.
Pic, directed by David Ellis and starring Samuel L. Jackson, opens Aug. 18. “Snakes” has provoked a wide array of grassroots enthusiasm that’s far beyond what would ordinarily be expected for a high-concept, moderately budgeted film.
“Our faith in Hollywood is fully restored,” said the members of Captain Ahab in a statement. “By pairing the greatest film of all time with the greatest song of all time, David Ellis and the executives at New Line Cinema have surpassed all previous expectations of human endeavor.”
