'Paper' cuts to the chase

How many indie DV docs shot in Israel about Philippine transsexual drag performers are feted with a big Berlinale bash at the Hyatt with a 70-person sit-down dinner?

The packed house at the Cinestar gave an enthusiastic welcome to the film “Paper Dolls,” which turned out to be a more human story than the expected drag queen frolic.

The only down note was the announcement that the “Paper Dolls” themselves were unable to attend the fest due to visa problems, but the mood of the party, whose guests included theater director Robert Wilson, himself the subject of the film “Absolute Wilson” (which screened in Panorama on Sunday) was festive, and the wine flowed, well, like wine.
