U sets sights on ‘Wonder’

Studio nabs rights to Venokur drama

Universal has purchased Ross Venokur’s drama pitch “The Eighth Wonder” for $350,000 against $600,000 and set it up with JC Spink, Chris Bender and Jake Weiner.

Story centers on a father reconnecting with his son, who’s going blind, to show him the eight wonders of his life.

Venokur already has teamed with Spink and Bender on “All Boxed Up,” a family comedy pitch that New Line set up at their Benderspink banner. Venokur has authored children’s books, worked on “The Tick” and is a writer on Fox’s “Night at the Museum.”

New Line-based Benderspink produced “A History of Violence” and “Monster-in-Law.” Upcoming projects include “Save the Date,” “Power and Glory” and a remake of Spanish hit “El Torrente.”

Venokur is repped by CAA.
