Brizzi kicks off 'Finals' franchise
Tyro helmer Fausto Brizzi, whose “Night Before Finals” topped the Italo B.O. this winter and won first film kudos at the David di Donatello awards, is prepping a sequel to the high-school romancer set in 1980s Rome, he announced at the NapoliFilmFestival Tuesday.
Helmer’s first foray into filmmaking came after he penned scripts for Italy’s lucrative Christmas laffer franchise including “Merry Christmas,” “Christmas in Love” and “Christmas in Miami.”
“Night,” whose B.O. total has reached E12 million ($15.4 million), appealed to a range of auds from teens to nostalgic thirtysomethings.
Sequel again will be backed by Roman producer Fulvio Lucisano’s Italian Intl. Film, with release via 01, pubcaster RAI’s distribution arm.
Brizzi said the sequel will begin shooting in October in Rome for a February release.
