Tokyo in co-prod’n

World Brief

Producer, distrib and exhibitor Tokyo Theaters is developing its first Japan-China co-production with Shanghai Film Studio.

Tokyo Theaters producer Norio Enomoto is penning cross-cultural romantic drama “Little Swallow.”

Backed by Tokyo Theaters, Enomoto has set up production outfit Shipyard Co. for “Little Swallow.”

Shipyard already has contributed about 35% of the coin for Shanghai Film Studio pic “Cherry,” which is in post, “but we had no creative input in the film, so we don’t consider it a co-production,” Enomoto explained.

“We’ve had experience co-producing with European partners, but all European producers want from Japan now is horror or anime,” Enomoto said. “By working with Asian partners, we can better expand our range of production.”
