Ellen Page will star in Jason Reitman’s coming-of-age comedy “Juno” opposite Michael Cera.
Mandate Pictures is producing with John Malkovich’s Mr. Mudd Prods. and Reitman’s shingle Hard C. Pic is skedded to start lensing early next year.
Diablo Cody — author of “Candy Girl: A Year in the Life of an Unlikely Stripper” — penned the script. Storyline revolves around a quick-witted teenager who is faced with an unplanned pregnancy.
Producers are Mason Novick (“Red Eye”) and Malkovich’s producing partners at Mr. Mudd, Lianne Halfon and Russell Smith. Mandate’s Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane are exec producing with Dan Dubiecki, Reitman’s producing partner at Hard C. Jim Miller, who brought the project into Mandate, will co-produce.
Reitman (“Thank You for Smoking”) boarded the project this summer, replacing Brad Silberling, who bowed out due to creative differences over casting.
Page appeared earlier this year in “Hard Candy” and “X-Men: The Last Stand.” She’ll next be seen in “An American Crime” and “The Tracy Fragments.”
Cera was a regular in the Fox series “Arrested Development.” He next stars in Sony’s upcoming “Super Bowl.”
