Stars hit the ‘Highway’ for Korean remake

Release is being targeted for 2007.

Korea-based Studio 2.0 has announced casting on “Highway Star,” a remake of the 1997 Japanese film “Saran Q-no-Enka-no Hanamichi.”

Pic will feature popular thesp Cha Tae-hyun (“My Sassy Girl”) as well as Lee So-yeon (“Untold Scandal”), an up-and-coming actress featured in the Casting Board section of Pusan festival’s Star Summit Asia.

Co-directed by newcomers Kim Sang-chan and Kim Hyun-soo, “Highway Star” tells the story of a thrush who reluctantly agrees to sing old-fashioned enka songs, hiding his face in a mask out of shame.

A release is being targeted for Lunar New Year 2007.
