Silverdocs sets slate

'Heart,' 'Guantanamo,' 'Wordplay' to screen at doc fest

Ward Serill’s “The Heart of the Game,” Michael Winterbottom’s “Road to Guantanamo” and Patrick Creadon’s “Wordplay” are among the pics set to screen at Silverdocs, the documentary film festival presented by American Film Institute and Discovery Channel.

The D.C.-area fest, which runs June 13-18, will unspool 100 films from a pool of 1,687 submissions repping 22 countries worldwide — up from 89 pics from 1,300 submissions last year.

Ten pics in the feature competition are Andrew Berends’ “The Blood of My Brother: A Story of Death in Iraq”; Daniel Cross and Mila Aung-Thwin’s “Chairman George”; Frank Piasecki Poulsen’s “Guerrilla Girl”; Mark Woolen’s “Jam”; Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady’s “Jesus Camp”; Alberto Vendemmiati’s “La persona de Leo N”; David Kinsella’s “Love Letters From a Children’s Prison”; Tomer Heymann’s “Paper Dolls”; Chema Rodriguez’s “The Railroad All Stars”; and Marco Wilms’ “Tailor-Made Dreams.”

In addition to its usual slates — special screenings, world docs, music docs and short docs — fest is introducing two programs, “DOCS Rx: A World of Documentaries on Global Health” and “Celebrate South Africa!”
