Mexican actor Kuno Becker (“Goal!”) is in talks to star as the young King Farouk in Christopher Miles’ long-in-the-works “The Last Pharaoh.”
Budgeted at £4 million ($7.5 million), pic will be produced by Miles and U.K.-based Pyramedia Prods., run by Egyptian media personality Nashwa Al Ruwaini.
Kelly Reilly (“Pride & Prejudice”) will play the king’s wartime love interest, Barbara Skelton, who was asked to spy on him by the British embassy in Cairo.
“I wanted to approach only the small period of the life of King Farouk because 1942 was so interesting,” said Miles, who plans to start shooting next year and hopes to film at Farouk’s sumptuous palaces. “The film shows how this fickle love affair affected the outcome of the war in Cairo at the time.”
