Rome fest kicks off co-prod’n mat

New Cinema Network takes on global approach

ROME — The new Rome Film Fest is launching a co-production mart called New Cinema Network, with links to Hong Kong’s Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) and the Cannes Atelier du Festival.

“The idea is for Rome to be part of a global network of initiatives geared towards developing new projects,” said Giorgio Gosetti, the Rome event’s general manager.

Gosetti cited Rotterdam’s CineMart, the Berlinale co-production mart, South Korea’s Pusan Promotion Project and the Cannes Atelier as inspiration for the Rome workshop and co-production platform, scheduled for Oct. 16-20.

New Cinema Network will feature a dozen projects from European helmers seeking coin for their second works. It will also include three Asian projects, selected from those at HAF, three projects among those at the Cannes Atelier and three from Africa.

Concurrently, the Eternal City’s nascent film event has announced three Bulgari-designed nods going to pic, actor and actress in the 14-pic competish, on top of the fest’s E200,000 ($250,000) pic prize.

Gosetti said 300 international industryites have signed up for the fest’s informal Business Street movie mart, scheduled for Oct. 13-16, while 150 international journos have been lured, and more than 300 pics.

The fest will run Oct. 13-21
