RGM Holdings secures Furst film deal

'Occupational Hazards' will lens in Asian city

SINGAPORE — In a deal just inked with Los Angeles-based Furst Films, RGM Holdings will assume an executive producer role on Simon Barry-penned “Occupational Hazards.” Movie will be shot entirely on location in an Asian city, with Singapore and Seoul among those in the running.

“This is a very real opportunity for Singapore to step up and show what it can do,” said RGM Holdings co-chairman Devesh Chetty. “We need to know we’re supported sufficiently to bring this project here. Especially when you’re competing against countries like Korea, which offer big incentives (to shoot there),” Chetty said.

Deal has been struck with Sean and Bryan Furst, whose production credits include “The Matador,” “The Cooler” and “Owning Mahowny.” Project is the first announced by Singapore-based management company RGM Holdings since its launch in July 2005.

“We have been very selective in looking for projects,” Chetty said. “Everyone’s been asking why it’s taken time to embark upon anything, but it’s as much about what you don’t do as what you do.”

Company launched with the backing of government agency MDA (Media Development Authority of Singapore) and the announcement of a $100 million media financing facility over five years.

MDA did not contribute financially, but the level of support will become apparent in the bid to bring the $20 million “Occupational Hazards” production to the city-state.

U.S. production would be the first to film here since Peter Bogdanovich’s “Saint Jack” (1979).

The Singapore Tourism Board is also looking to lure the movie industry. Its Film in Singapore! scheme brought Bollywood’s “Krrish” here and supported “Singapore Dreaming,” which bows on the eve of the Singapore Film Festival on April 12.
