Pune Film Fest kicks off

Indian festival to preem 'Color It Orange'

Indian information and broadcasting minister Priyaranjan DasMunshi will inaugurate the fourth Pune Intl. Film Festival, skedded to run Jan. 12-19.

To be held in multiplexes across the city of Pune in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, the fest will preem UTV Motion Pictures’ “Rang De Basanti” (Color It Orange) featuring Aamir Khan (“Lagaan”). The shorts section will showcase award-winning pics including the controversial Rakesh Sharma-helmed “Final Solution.”

The competition sections will feature an international section with kudos for picture, director and male and female actor. The fest will debut a state government-sponsored award for Marathi-lingo film.

The fest will fete Bollywood vets helmer Yash Chopra and thesp Vaijyantimala Bali. The tributes section will remember Bollywood hyphenate Sunil Dutt and Marathi-lingo vets Raja Navate and Dinkar Patil.
