Shingle will debut as U.S. rep for Sparks at Mipcom

Promofilm U.S., the Los Angeles- and Miami-based subsid of the Spanish TV production giant, is gearing up to expand into English-language production in the U.S.

Shingle, which has an output deal with NBC Universal Spanish-language unit Telemundo, will debut as the U.S. rep for international consortium Sparks Network at confab Mipcom in October.

As part of its partnership with Sparks, Promofilm will have access to formats from TV producers in 12 countries and will work with other Sparks members to develop programming derived from formats around the globe.

Promofilm’s slate of TV shows in English include the Lifetime pilot “Alessandra,” derived from Promofilm format “Alessandra, Your Sexologist,” now airing on Argentina’s Artear TV.

Shingle also is producing “Hecho en Heaven,” (Made in Heaven), an original Promofilm dating gamer that will premiere on Telemundo sister net, youth-skewed bilingual web mun2.

Company also has supplied production services to Fox’s “Temptation Island” and is in talks with Discovery Channel for an unscripted English-language program.

According to U.S. development head Margie Moreno, Promofilm U.S. is reversioning formats developed by Spanish partner Globomedia for the U.S. market. These include family sitcom “Los Serranos” (The Serranos) and talent/fiction hybrid “Un paso adelante” (A Step Forward).

During its two years in the U.S., Promofilm has produced several Spanish-language programs for Telemundo, including high-rated daily dating show “Doce corazones” (12 Hearts), gamer “Buena fortuna” (Good Luck) and makeover programs “Buenos vecinos” (Good Neighbors) and “Lo dejo en tus manos” (I Leave It in Your Hands).
