U.K. base will be run by entertainment lawyer Nagdhi
MOSCOW — Luxemburg-based Thema, a subsid of Moscow industrial group AFK Sistema, will open a $7 million, 54,000 sq.-ft. studio in St. Petersburg in September, and a London office.
The U.K. base will be run by entertainment lawyer Kami Nagdhi, and will tap into various Euro production subsidies.
Thema, which is closely connected to the government, floated 16.4% of its stock in an IPO in London last year for $1.56 billion.
It has already put coin into Woody Allen’s “Match Point,” Peace Arch’s “Delirious” and Werner Herzog’s “Rescue Dawn,” starring Christian Bale. Under producers Michael Dounaev and Jimmy de Brabant, it has co-produced seven features.
