Oz pledges coin to pix

Fund secures cash for four features

Aussie government coin agency the Film Finance Corp. issued a bunch of promissory notes Tuesday, biding time until its new financial year allocation kicks in July 1.

Musicvideo helmer Mark Hartley will make his feature debut with doc “Not Quite Hollywood,” about the slew of Aussie sex-romp pics made when censorship laws were wound back in the 1970s.

Exec producer is Jonathan Shteinman, who’s also attached as producer to “The Children of Huang Shi,” a movie about journo George Hogg, who rescued orphaned children when Japan invaded China in 1937.

“Children” will be Australia’s first co-production with China, produced by Arthus Cohn and helmed by Brit Roger Spottiswoode.

John Polson returns to Australia with “Two Fists One Heart,” his first Oz project since he debuted there in 1999 with “Siam Sunset.” Praiser Fiona Nix will exec produce.

FFC’s fourth title is “Shiver,” which will reunite the team behind “Soft Fruit,” helmer Christina Andreef and producer Helen Bowden.

Cast announcements will follow as funding for pics is secured in the coming financial year.
