Indie distrib New Yorker Films has snapped up U.S. rights to Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi’s “The Willow Tree” (Beed-e Majnoon).

Rights were sold off by GreeneStreet Films Intl., headed by prexy Ariel Veneziano.

Pic, which had its international preem in Toronto, follows a blind man who regains his vision.

Majidi made headlines in March when he pulled the pic from Denmark’s NatFilm Festival in protest at the publication of cartoons depicting the Mohammad in a Danish newspaper.
