The third Mexico City Contemporary Intl. Film Fest, known as the Ficco, will open on Feb. 22 with Terrence Malick’s “The New World.”
Hosted by nation’s second-biggest exhib Cinemex, fest will highlight 151 features, only 17% of which have local distribution, and 111 shorts from 40 countries.
In competition, 20 features are up for picture, director and first work, as well as 18 docs.
“We are trying to show there is a market for independent world cinema here,” said fest director Paula Astorga, noting attendance rose 25% at the second fest to 69,000.
