Halle Berry and Benicio Del Toro will team in “Things We Lost in the Fire” for DreamWorks. Danish helmer Susanne Bier is directing from a script by Allan Loeb.
Pic tells the story of a woman (Berry) whose husband suddenly dies. She invites her husband’s troubled best friend (Del Toro) to live with her family, and as the friend turns his life around, he helps the grief-stricken family confront their loss.
Sam Mendes is producing along with Sam Mercer. Pippa Harris is co-producing and scribe Loeb will take an exec producer credit.
Bier is making her English-language debut on “Fire” after helming Danish pic “Open Hearts.” Zach Braff is set to direct a redo of that pic for Paramount Pictures this summer.
Berry recently wrapped “The Perfect Stranger” and next stars in “X-Men: The Last Stand.” Del Toro has signed on to play Che Guevara in Steven Soderbergh’s “Guerrilla.”
