Kim ‘Ties’ up Busan crix kudos

Helmer also wins director award

PUSAN — Toronto selection “Family Ties” was the surprise best picture recipient at the Busan Film Critics Assn. awards.

Pic’s young helmer Kim Tae-yong also won the director award in a ceremony held at the Marriott Hotel on Friday. The film screens in the Pusan Intl. Film Festival’s Korean Panorama section. Busan-set “Bloody Tie” nabbed actor for Hwang Jeong-min and supporting actress for Chu Ja-hyun; Uhm Jung-hwa won actress for “Princess Aurora”; Hong Sang-soo’s “Woman on the Beach” picked up new actress for Ko Hyun-joung and supporting actor for Kim Tae-woo; debut film “Like a Virgin” grabbed new director honors for Lee Hae-young and Lee Hae-jun, and new actor for Ryu Deok-hwan; while writer/director Son Jae-hon walked off with screenplay for “My Scary Girl.”

Helmer Bong Joon-ho’s B.O. record-breaking “The Host” received a special jury prize.

The awards, presented each year at the fest, are now in their seventh year.
