ImaginAsian on ‘Journey’

Company will release pic in the spring

NEW YORK — ImaginAsian Entertainment has picked up Sundance pic “Journey From the Fall” as the first theatrical release on its ImaginAsian Pictures slate.

Movie, from director Ham Tran, concerns a family of Vietnamese refugees who flee to America after the Vietnam war ends.

Company will release the film in the spring. Movie also will open the San Diego Film Fest later this week and receive targeted release in cities with large Vietnamese or Vietnamese-American populations.

Company also bought home entertainment rights and will release the film under its new homevid banner.

Pic was acquired from Fire in the Lake; Lam Nguyen produced.

ImaginAsian was until recently primarily a cable net, but it has moved into acquisitions and has units specializing in theatrical and homevid distribution.

Company earlier this year acquired another Sundance pic, erotic thriller “Green Chair” from helmer Park Cheol-su, for theatrical release.
