Alan Parker will direct Charlize Theron in “The Ice at the Bottom of the World” for Picturehouse and New Line Intl.
Pic reteams Theron and Picturehouse topper Bob Berney, who ran Newmarket and distributed “Monster.” Theron won the actress Oscar for that film, which jumpstarted her Denver and Delilah Films shingle.
“Ice,” a drama that Mark Richard scripted from his fictional short story, is set in Chesapeake Bay, where a grizzled Navy captain reluctantly retires for health reasons. Theron will play one of his daughters, a heroin addict and out-of-control single mother.
Parker, best known for “The Commitments” and “Evita,” last directed “The Life of David Gale.”
