Thesps star in film from Icelandic director
CANNES — Ryan Gosling and Tom Waits are toplining “The Good Heart,” the next film from Icelandic director Dagur Kari.
Katapult Film Sales is handling worldwide sales rights for the film, which will begin principal photography this fall.
Gosling plays a young homeless man named Lucas who is taken under the wing of Jacques (Waits), a bar owner from his fifth heart attack. Knowing his days are numbered, Jacques decides to train Lucas to take over his bar.
Skuli Fr. Malmquist and Thor Sigurjonsson are producing for Zik Zak. Joni Sighvatsson exec produces.
“The Good Heart” will be Kari’s first English-language pic. The director’s first feature, “Noi Albinoi,” was in Icelandic, and his follow-up, “Voksne mennesker” (Dark Horse), which screened in last year’s Un Certain Regard, was in Danish.
Gosling starred in New Line’s “The Notebook” opposite Rachel McAdams and is in New Line’s upcoming thriller “Fracture,” with Anthony Hopkins. Waits performed original music for Fox Animation’s “Robots.” He’s attached to star in ContentFilm’s “Aurelia.”
