Ryan Gosling has been cast in the romantic comedy “Lars and the Real Girl” for Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. Craig Gillespie is directing from a script by Nancy Oliver (“Six Feet Under”).
Production will begin in the fall.
SKE’s Kimmel Intl. will be handling foreign sales during the Cannes Film Festival.
Pic tells the offbeat story of Lars (Gosling), a lonely, delusional young man and his unconventional relationship with a lifelike doll he finds on the Internet.
Sidney Kimmel, John Cameron and Sarah Aubrey will produce the pic with SKE prexy of production William Horberg exec producing along with Bruce Toll.
Gillespie recently received the DGA Award for commercial directing. He makes his feature debut on the upcoming “Mr. Woodcock,” starring Billy Bob Thornton and Susan Sarandon.
Oliver served as a writer and producer on HBO’s “Six Feet Under.” She has inked a blind deal with Warner Bros. based on her script for “Lars,” which marks her feature-writing debut.
SKE financed, in association with Universal, the Paul Greengrass pic “United 93.” Company is currently in post-production on “Griffin and Phoenix,” starring Dermot Mulroney and Amanda Peet, and the Ed Harris starrer “Copying Beethoven,” directed by Agnieszka Holland.
