Gallic Wild Bunch cuts deal for Korean ‘Years’

Sales co. picks up pic from veteran helmer

PUSAN — French sales company Wild Bunch is nearing a deal for international rights to “Across the Years,” the 100th feature film by veteran Korean director Im Kwon-taek.

According to a representative from Prime Entertainment, financial terms on the deal have been agreed to, and the film will be marketed aggressively to major festivals including next year’s Cannes. Pic, which was feted in a party at the Paradise Hotel on Saturday Night, has finished 60% of its shooting and is expected to wrap production in the winter.

“Across the Years” is based on a three-part novel which also formed the basis for Im’s 1993 feature “Sopyonje,” considered by many to be his masterpiece. In 2000 and 2002 Im competed at Cannes with “Chunhyang” and “Chihwaseon” respectively, with the latter winning a Best Director prize.
