French commish cashes in on cinephiles

Ile-de-France Film Commission offers tours of famous spots

After hooking Sofia Coppola up with the folks at Versailles for “Marie-Antoinette” and arranging for “The Da Vinci Code” to film at the Louvre in Paris, the Ile-de-France Film Commission is now helping cinephiles visit the region’s locations that have been captured on film.

The commission is launching an annual publication that allows the layman to discover Paris and the region through the eyes of helmers who have immortalized the City of Light.

The guide, published with the regional tourism board, is another effort to ramp up the region’s profile as a shooting location. Gaul hopes to stem the exodus of productions to cheaper locales by cutting production tariffs for monuments and reworking the guidelines for funding.
