Franklin on a Soul train

Crooner teams with duo on prod'n house

Gospel singer Kirk Franklin has teamed with producer-writer Bobby Smith Jr. and producer-casting director Robi Reed to form Fo Yo Soul Film & Television, focusing on inspirational projects.

Smith and Reed will serve as co-presidents, while Carla M. Williams is exec VP.

Fo Yo Soul is developing features for Franklin to produce and potentially star in. On the TV side, the company’s developing a Franklin concert special and a daytime talkshow he will host.

“Since film and television are two of the most powerful mediums, it is my passion to use them to reach people for a greater purpose,” Franklin said.

Smith and Reed will continue to oversee their respective companies, Imatra Prods. and Robi Reed Entertainment.

Smith’s writing credits include “Jason’s Lyric” and “Their Eyes Were Watching God.” His pitch “Lift Every Voice,” centered on gospel choir competitions, has been set up at New Line.

Fo Yo Soul is repped by APA and Mitch Smelkinson at Stone, Meyer, Genow, Smelkinson & Binder.
