Fox 2000 has optioned bestselling young-adult novel “The Book Thief,” by Australian writer Markus Zusak, for Karen Rosenfelt to produce.
The 550-page, World War II-era novel, narrated by Death, tells the story of Liesel Meminger from the time she is taken at age 9 to live with a foster family in a German working-class neighborhood. Liesel arrives having just stolen her first book, “The Gravediggers Handbook” — it will be the beginning of a love affair with books.
Last year, Rosenfelt segued from her post as production prexy at Paramount to a two-year production deal at Fox 2000 and 20th Century Fox. Most recently, she exec produced the Walden Media/Nickelodeon adaptation of E.B. White’s “Charlotte’s Web.” She’s also producing Fox 2000’s “Daniel Isn’t Talking,” starring Julia Roberts.
