Co. in festive mood on AFM's eve
Focus Features’ international arm got first dibs on the AFM party circuit in Santa Monica this year by throwing its annual shindig on the market’s opening eve. Move proved shrewd, as so many AFM parties are booked these days at the Viceroy, the onetime generic beach hotel that’s been overhauled into a hipster haven, that they tend to blur into one another.
Although Focus’ bash made it a happy blur indeed, flecked with memories of the patio’s lighted pool, cozy tents for chowing down and plenty of corners for canoodling. Holding court were Focus honcho Andrew Karpin, as well as Universal’s David Linde, who exclaimed, as he worked the fete, “These are my peeps,” referring to his days serving as head of Miramax and Good Machine’s international units.
