Dating game begins for family features

“The Water Horse” is in and “Narnia” is out for December 2007.

Citing extra time needed for production, Disney has delayed “Prince Caspian,” the follow-up to December’s hugely successful “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” from December 2007 to summer 2008.

Holiday 2007 won’t be without a family fantasy tentpole, however, as Sony has dated “The Water Horse,” another epic based on a kids novel that is being shot in New Zealand, for Dec. 8, 2007, a week before “Caspian” was previously set to open.

Both films are being co-financed by Walden Media — “Water Horse” with Beacon Pictures and Revolution, “Narnia” with the Mouse House — leaving it as the only constant for next year’s holiday season.
