Exec makes his Mark

Blackman new senior veep at shingle

Producer Laurence Mark has hired David Blackman as senior VP at his Sony-based Laurence Mark Prods. Mark also elevated staffer Brian Schornak from story editor to development director.

Blackman, who’ll be the point man for soliciting material and setting up projects, joined the company from Wendy Finerman Prods. He’d worked there since July 2002 on projects that included “The Devil Wears Prada,” and he’ll be exec producer of New Line’s adaptation of Kate DiCamillo book “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.” Blackman also has worked for producers Bridget Johnson, Cary Woods and Steve Tisch.

He’s also a visiting professor in the MFA Producers Program at the UCLA School of Theater, Film & Television.

Schornak joined Mark last fall from Focus Features and Back Lot Pictures.

Mark is in post-production on “Dreamgirls,” DreamWorks’ Bill Condon-directed adaptation of the stage musical that stars Jamie Foxx, Beyonce and Eddie Murphy. He’s also producing “The Lookout,” the directorial debut of Scott Frank, which stars Jeff Daniels and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
