Editors hear sounds of the ‘Geisha’

'Memoirs' gets dialogue/ADR, music and sound effects/foley nods

The Motion Picture Sound Editors org has given “Memoirs of a Geisha” nominations in the three major categories for its Golden Reel awards, with nods in dialogue/ADR, music and sound effects/foley.

The MPSE will present its awards March 4 at the Beverly Hilton.

Other features receiving nominations include “War of the Worlds,” “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” “Sin City,” “Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith,” “The Legend of Zorro,” “The Island,” “Crash,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” and “Kung Fu Hustle.”

Additional nominees are “Downfall,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “Batman Begins,” “King Kong,” “Cinderella Man,” “The Constant Gardener,” “Walk the Line,” “The Producers,” “Hustle & Flow,” “Rent,” “The Chorus,” “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” and “Kingdom of Heaven.”

Animated nominees are “Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride,” “Madagascar,” “Howl’s Moving Castle,” “Robots,” “Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit” and “Chicken Little.”
